The Great Trails State Coalition has announced the launch of the 2023 North Carolina Year of the Trail campaign, which will celebrate and draw attention to North Carolina’s vast network of trails, greenways, and blueways. North Carolina Year of the Trail is the largest statewide celebration of trails and outdoor recreation in state history, and it aims to firmly establish North Carolina as “The Great Trails State.”

The campaign will start on Jan. 1 with “First Day Outdoors,” and everyone is invited to participate by finding a trail to walk, run, hike, bike, paddle, or ride. Morrisville Parks and Recreation invites the community to participate in a #firstdayoutdoors guided walk on Jan. 1 at Cedar Fork District Park, 228 Aviation Parkway, at 2 p.m. Participants can choose between a 1-mile or half-mile out-and-back guided walk, which will start at Crabtree Creek Greenway. Participants are asked to arrive 15 minutes before the start of the walk.
