If your area is exposed to hazardous materials, follow these guidelines to mitigate damage.
Prepare Now

- Know your local media stations used for emergency information. The radio stations in our area part of the emergency broadcast system are WQDR 94.7FM and WDCG 105.1FM
- Learn shelter-in-place procedures
- Learn the location of ventilation shut-offs
- Repair seals around windows, doors, and basements
Act Now
- If you witness a hazardous materials incident, call 9-1-1
- Listen to designated media stations for emergency instructions and follow directions immediately
- Bring household members and pets inside
- Stay away from the incident site
- Keep your body fully covered
- Avoid eating/drinking anything that has been uncovered
- Prepare your household for a possible evacuation
- Close all exterior doors and windows
Shelter-in-Place Procedures
- Turn off ventilation systems, fans, clothes dryers, and heating & air conditioning units. If possible, close fireplace damper
- Get your emergency supplies kit
- Close windows, curtains, blinds, and shades
- Go to the above ground room with the fewest windows/doors
- Wet down towels and jam in cracks under doors
- If possible, tape around doors and windows. Block air vents using plastic sheeting/bags
- Stay inside until local media announces its safe or evacuation is required
