Crabtree Creek Greenway area near field

Crabtree Creek Greenway extends along Crabtree Creek for roughly 1.4 miles from Crabtree Crossing Parkway, through Cedar Fork District Park to Evans Road.  At Evans Road, it ties into Cary’s greenway system to the east and provides access to Lake Crabtree and Umstead State Park.

Crabtree Creek Greenway was built in two phases, with the first section completed in 2018.

Crabtree Creek Greenway Bridge

A railroad underpass was built through a partnership with North Carolina Railroad (NCRR).  This project was completed and full trail opened in September of 2020.  NCRR invested $8.5 million to construct a new railroad bridge over Crabtree Creek in Morrisville, replacing a structure built in 1927. The Town contributed $1.4 million, bringing the total project cost to $9.9 million.

The railroad bridge allows for the greenway to pass under it. The bridge also added a future second track that could be required to maintain freight service, as well as future passenger rail.
