The Community Police Academy is an eight-week program designed to give participants a working knowledge of the Morrisville Police Department.  It is intended to increase transparency and enhance understanding between the community and police. This program provides:
  • Knowledge of the philosophy, policies, and guiding principles of law enforcement and the requirements of ethical conduct governing police services in our community
  • Understanding of the rigorous training and demanding instruction provided to police officers
  • An overview of the department’s approach to community policing
  • More effective communication between the community and the police officers who serve them
  • Stronger, more resilient relationships between the department and the community

The academy combines classroom instruction and hands-on activities, including:

  • Community field trips
  • Police officer ride-alongs
  • Radio communication practice
  • Use of force demonstrations
  • Police driving training
  • Reality-based scenarios
  • Practice criminal investigations

Among the goals of the Community Police Academy is to help the residents of Morrisville to better understand how the police work in their community.  The Police Department also hopes to receive feedback through the academy that will aid the department in communicating most effectively with citizens.
