Morrisville Community Park Arbor Day Sapling Planting

The Public Works Community Enhancement Team coordinated with the Morrisville stewardship program to set aside a 2,000 square foot plot of land adjacent to the Morrisville Community Park playground for forest rehabilitation. The team utilized tree saplings that were donated by Wake County and Project Pando, a nonprofit organization that collects seeds from the local community and assists in environmental restoration projects around the Triangle. The project was completed on March 20, 2024 with the help of over 20 volunteers. Associated town of Morrisville partners Project Pando and Trees for the Triangle were able to provide planting guidance and expertise to all volunteers in attendance.

  Morrisville Community Park Tree Planting

The Public Work’s Community Enhancement team planted 18 trees at Morrisville Community Park with the help of over 20 volunteers from our local community. The location for this planting was behind the large baseball field at Morrisville Community Park. This marks the third and final large tree installation of the 2023/24 fiscal year.

Morrisville’s stewardship program and Morrisville’s Environment and Stormwater Committee were instrumental in gathering support for these projects. These Winter plantings have shown the town’s commitment, both from town staff and an incredible display of public interest, in improving our tree canopy.

Nature Walk and Lookout on the Hill

The Community Enhancement team tackled a big project this Winter. A largely eroded hill near the picnic shelter appeared to be a prime spot for a new landscaping bed and corresponding seating area to look out over the park. The team planted an abundance of native shrubs and flowers to turn the area into its own nature walk. We hope that this area will become a beneficial amenity for all park users to enjoy.
