Storm Drain Marking

The Engineering Department offers volunteer opportunities to help educate the community about the importance of pollution prevention with our storm drain marking program. Many residents are not aware that stormwater runoff that enters storm drains is not treated. The runoff flows directly into localcreeks, rivers, and lakes. The storm drain marking program allows volunteers to place watershed specific markers on storm drains to remind the community that stormwater runoff can wash pesticides, fertilizers, pet waste, litter, oil and other automobile fluids, sediment, and household chemicals into creeks, rivers, and lakes that are home to wildlife and that provide our water supply.

The Engineering Department will provide individuals and groups who would like to participate in this program with all storm drain marking supplies, safety equipment, and instructions.

Those interested in volunteering in this program should complete the storm drain marking form and call Stormwater Division staff at 919-463-6172 or email them to schedule a storm drain marking event.

Resources

To assist with meeting the objectives of the Stormwater Division's public education and outreach requirements, the Town is a member of the Clean Water Education Partnership (CWEP), which runs radio and television campaigns, provides printed brochures, and maintains a website to communicate water quality and environmental information to residents within the Tar-Pamlico, Neuse, and Cape Fear River Basins. Morrisville is located in both the Neuse and Cape Fear River basins.  Additionally, the Town distributes stormwater materials provided by CWEP, Wake County, NCDEQ, and the EPA to residents and businesses.  Materials are also displayed in the lobby of Town Hall.
